Obituary

Mother Alberta "Birder" Chatman passed away June 24, 2020 in Texarkana, Texas. She was born June 11, 1914 in Hooks, Texas to Rev. & Mrs. Stoney Jackson. She was a faithful member of Bethlehem COGIC until the pastor's death. She later joined Greater Shiloh COGIC where she remained faithful until her health failed her. She was the oldest member of the Mother's Board. Loved life, enjoyed cooking and feeding children in the community, always ready to help whenever and wherever she could. Mrs. Chatman met and married Billie Chatman December 31, 1936. To this union six children were born; Linsey L., Erma Faye, Annie D., John G., Edna Y. and Beverly J. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, two daughters, two grandsons and all her siblings.

Those left to cherish her memories: three daughters – Erma Allen, Annie Gipson and Edna Sims; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 31 great great-grandchildren, her nephew L. C. Chatman and many more love ones.

Viewing will be Thursday, July 2 nd from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Graveside services under the direction of Haynes Mortuary will be Friday, July 3 rd at 2:00 p.m. at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens with Superintendent James Tudman and Minister Larry Williams officiating.
