Betty Jean Chatman-Bush, known as "Hoodie" to her family and friends, was born in Texarkana, Texas on November 3, 1936 to Griffin and Luella Chatman.  She was the fifth of twelve children. Betty graduated from Macedonia High School, where she played basketball, tennis, and was a majorette in the school band. It was in high school that she met her future husband Fred Douglas Bush.  This union produced four children Shirley, Vanessa, Larry and Douglas. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, son Larry, parents Griffin and Luella, sisters Ruby Cullins, Claudia Burton, Dessie Allen, Bessie Buchanan, and brothers, L.C. Chatman and Leon Chatman.

Betty enjoyed cooking, and outdoor activities, including fishing and gardening.

She had immeasurable love for her family.  She was a devoted member of Greater Shiloh Church of God in Christ in Nash, Texas, assisting Pastor Tudman in any way possible. She was a volunteer, usher and worked on the Pastor's Aide Committee.

Betty was called home December 13, 2022 and leaves to cherish in her memories four sisters, Naydeen [Henry] Casteel, Shirley Ellis, Wilma Willliams, Patricia Chatman and Sundra Chatman, along with one son Douglas Bush, two daughters Shirley Batts and Vanessa Bennett, five grandchildren Marcus Reynolds, Ashley [Anisha] Bush, David [Kandrea] Batts, Chauncey Bell, and Angelica Bennett, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends who loved and cherished her deeply.
