Burnie Glynn Nelson
was born December 01, 1962 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Iseral and Verdell Nelson of Doddridge, AR. She loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, Flint, MI.
Burnie was a residence of Grand Blanc Twp., MI and graduated from Flint Northwestern High School and furthered her education at Baker College in Flint, MI. She began her professional career working for Kettering University in 1989. In 1994, she worked in the Mechanical Engineering Department and later moved to Liberal Studies in 1998 as an Administrative Specialist. Upon retiring from Kettering, she continued to work at Carmen Ainsworth High School and later Grand Blanc Middle School.
Burnie was the founder of "Where Words and Heart Meet". She was the creator of the journal "I'm Not Built to Break". She was a motivational speaker, hosted workshops and conferences that focused on women empowerment. As a way of giving back to her community, she served women at the YMCA Safe House, Carriage Town Ministries, and Phinisee Outreach Shelter for Women. In 2000 she launched her own line of greeting cards and later wrote several books of poetry. She loved the Lord and dedicated her life to ministering to others. She was a member of Kingdom of Heaven Ministries and later Agape Faith Fellowship, Birch Run, Michigan.
She was preceeded in death by her maternal grandparents - F. S. and Connie G. Holmes; paternal grandparents - Ben and Gracie Nelson, seven aunts and three uncles.
Burnie leaves to cherish her loving memories: parents, Iseral & Verdell Nelson, Doddridge, AR; four siblings, Pamela (Marvin) Cook, Flint, MI, Belinda Walker, Port Gibson, MS, Dennis (LaTonya) Nelson, Newington, VA, and Vennis (Pamela) Nelson, Springboro, OH; aunts, Rosemary (Alvin) Love, Precious Williams, and Arlene Legardye all of Texarkana, AR; uncles, Raleigh Holmes, Compton, CA, Willard Holmes, Bossier City, LA, Kent Holmes, Inglewood, CA and Willie Nelson, Texarkana, TX; a special friend, Rev. Janet Polidan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
