Rev. Calvin Lee Woodside was born June 20, 1943 in Texarkana, Texas to the late Alfred Woodside and Beulah Johnson Woodside. Rev. Woodside was educated in the Texarkana Independent School District where he graduated from the infamous Dunbar High School in May of 1961. After graduation, Calvin attended Jarvis Christian College and East Texas State at El Paso until being drafted into the U.S. Army.
In November 1974, Rev. Woodside was united in marriage to Juanita Taylor. To this union, four children were born: LaShunda, Shenneka, Calvin Jr. and Reginald.
In June 1990, Rev. Woodside united in marriage to Eliza Lewis.
Calvin was a devoted member of New Zion Baptist Church for many years where he served in many capacities. Later, he became instrumental in obtaining land, a building, and the organizing of Charis'land Assembly Church under the leadership of Pastor James Jackson. Calvin was ordained into the ministry May 2015 and served faithfully until God sent his angels to usher him home.
Some of Rev. Woodside's favorite pastimes included serving in local nursing facilities, finding church bible studies, prison ministry, as well as visiting the sick and shut in. In March of 2020, when the pandemic halted his favorite traveling ministries, he returned to his first favorite pastime of playing chess with friends and watching MSNBC or sports.
Rev. Woodside fought a good fight and finished his course on the 30 th day of March. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Eliza Woodside; children, LaShunda Woodside, Shenneka (Terry) Muldrow, Calvin Woodside Jr. (Ola) and Reginald Woodside; the mother of his children, Juanita Taylor Hopkins; step-children, Kimberly (Terries) Wilson and Ashleigh Lafayette; brother and best friend, Alford Woodside; grandchildren, Ulycia, Uluas, Colins, Sha'Asia, Jordan, James, Jalen and Camarian; step-grandchildren, Brytni, Christopher, DeVonta', Jazmine, JaCoby and Jayton; 8 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of many special friends.
