Charles Ray Drake, 71, departed this life on May 23, 2025, at Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. Born July 22, 1953, in Kiblah, Arkansas, Charles lived a life full of joy, laughter, and unwavering love for his family and friends.


A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Charles was known for his warm smile, his sharp wit, and a spirit that could brighten any room. He was the life of every gathering-charming, humorous, and full of light. He loved music, good conversation, and most of all, making others laugh. His presence was a gift, and his joy was contagious.


Charles had a passion for dominoes-where he didn't just play, he dominated. He was the undefeated king of the table. He also loved to grill, and his ribs were legendary. Whether traveling with loved ones or simply taking long country drives with his wife through back roads, Charles found beauty in life's simple pleasures.


He was a proud graduate of Bright Star High School, Class of 1972, where he led his basketball team to many victories as a star player. After high school, he worked as a truck driver for Coca-Cola before beginning a 39-year career at Cooper Tire. There, he held the role of Division Chairman for over 20 years, a testament to his leadership and dedication.


Charles accepted Christ at an early age and remained grounded in his faith throughout his life. He was a fighter in every sense of the word-strong, resilient, and courageous. Though he battled bravely, God, in His infinite wisdom, granted him peace and called him home.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Daretha and Roosevelt Williams; his father, Dallas Wiggins; sister, Denise Garner; brother, Johnny Wiggins; and daughter, Anita Crittenden.


Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Shirley Drake, his children: Tiffany Drake and Mack Cornelius of Texarkana, TX; Asha James of Texarkana, AR; Marcia (Steven) Turner of Texarkana, TX; Helen Sanders of Shreveport, LA; Skye Sanders of Texarkana, AR; Edward "Scooter" Crittenden of Texarkana, TX; and Andre Sanders of Dallas, TX.


He is also survived by his siblings: Carolyn (Gerald) Miller of Houston, TX; Teledeo (Ivory) Simington of Texarkana, TX; Carolyn Jackson of Queen City, TX; Effie Stiger of Queen City, TX; Sonja Clark of Atlanta, TX; Jeanne Wiggins of Queen City, TX; Timothy (Patty) Belford of Killeen, TX; Derell (Teresa) Williams of Kiblah, AR; Dallas Wiggins Jr. of Garland, TX; and Phillip (Cassandra) Wiggins of Queen City, TX.


His legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and cherished friends.


Charles Ray Drake was a man of strength, honor, and deep love. Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate the joy he brought into our lives. His memory will live on in the laughter he inspired, the wisdom he shared, and the love he poured so freely.
