Mr. Charles R. Smith was born March 18, 1951 in Texarkana, TX to the late Johnnie M. Smith Thompson and Robert Sterley. He departed this life on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at the VA Hospital in Shreveport, LA.

Charles was a graduate of the Macedonia High School Class of 1968 where he ran track and was First Chair Drummer. After high school, he enlisted into the United States Navy. His passion was playing dominoes. He loved his family and looked forward to being with everyone at the next family gathering so he could do his James Brown impersonation one more time.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Stephen C. Smith and Michael Criner; one sister, Barbara S. Weaver; one brother, Melvin L. Smith; three grandchildren, Michaela Criner, Brandon Criner and  Langston Smith; one great-grandchild, Ava Rose Carmona; four aunts, Gwendolyn Smith of Bastrop, TX, Bobbie Moore of Texarkana, TX, Joyce Kelly of Ashdown, AR and Ada Simpkins of Stockton, CA; one uncle, Charles D. Smith of Texarkana, TX; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
