Obituary

Mrs. DeShun "Shun" LaJena Casteel was born on December 21, 1972, at Wadley Regional Medical Hospital in Texarkana, TX. Essie and Emma Jean Casteel were the proud and blessed parents of this beautiful and healthy baby girl. Shun was immersed with love and grew up in the cozy city of New Boston, TX, where she attended the Antioch Baptist Church with her family. In 1992, Shun graduated from New Boston High School. In 2001, Shun moved to the Dallas Metroplex and later graduated from the Air Traffic Control School while working at American Airlines.

Shun always had a strong passion to drive professionally. She made a career change and dedicated the last 17 years towards driving various professional vehicle types to include driving for the United States Postal Service. Shun's greatest desire and passion was to drive 18 wheelers. Her 5'5 frame mastered the road by controlling the largest of monster trucks. The name on the side of her truck was adequately titled "Lady Steel." She drove predominantly within the United States of America, and she traveled to many states on multiple occasions. Driving was her life long dream.

Shun will be fondly remembered by her unforgettable, warm, and beautiful smile. She loved to laugh and tell hilarious stories about her road trips. Shun had a strong and creative mentality that was always working towards her next endeavor. She was full of life. She was very thoughtful, compassionate, kind, and generous. She enjoyed eating out and testing new foods and new restaurants.

DeShun displayed high morals and standards. She respectfully acknowledged everyone with a greeting of "Yes Ma'am" and/or "No Ma'am", even to younger individuals. She loved her family and especially adored her only brother, Reginald Austin, whom meant the world to her.
