Sister Emberie Alma Willard Hindman was born on March 10, 1925 to Willie Willard and Harriet Buford Willard of Gethsemane/Naples Texas.  She was an only child and was raised on a farm. Sister Hindman graduated from Gethsemane High School in Naples TX as the Salutatorian of her 1942 class.  She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Science from Texas College, Tyler TX and a Masters Degree in Earth Science from East Texas State University, Commerce TX in 1972, and was determined to leave the farm life.

Sister Hindman was an Educator/Teacher for over 60 years.  She taught at Rambo Elementary School and High School Bivins TX from 1946-1950; Fulton Elementary, Hope AR from 1950-1952; Central High School, New Boston TX From 1958-1965; Jamison Elementary, Texarkana TX from 1965-1968; and Highland Park Elementary, Texarkana TX from 1968-1987.  She was a Substitute Teacher for TISD and LEISD School Districts for many years after retiring.

Sis Hindman was a devout and exemplary Christian who loved the Lord and her church. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the pond near Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was a woman of beauty, who lived life with grace, dignity and elegance; and she leaves a tremendous legacy of love, faith, devotion and service. Although she will no longer dwell with us physically, the bright and radiant flame of her laughter and life's memory will shine forever in our hearts!  After all, she participated in the  "Waterton Mardi Gras Parade" from her wheelchair days before departure and led her own 95 ^th birthday song "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME" from her hospital bed!  What a lovely memory!

Sister Hindman was a member of Sunset Baptist Church, Polly Chapel Baptist Church, and Lonoke Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor C. K. Yarber, Sr., Texarkana AR. There she was an active member of the Mission Ministries, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.  In 2012, she became a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, Texarkana TX under the leadership of Pastor Alvin J. Gay.   She served as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Mothers' Ministry.  In July 2018, she returned to Lonoke Baptist Church, Texarkana AR under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Hill Sr., where she remained faithfully until God called her home.

Sister Hindman was an active member of Texarkana  Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. (Golden Life Member for over 48 years); served as a devoted Sponsor and Advisor of the Twin City Top Teens of America Chapter for over 19 years; member of Top Ladies of Distinction Inc. from 1988 – present. She was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association, Retired Teachers Association, National Education Association, and a member of the Sophisticates Social and Civics Club for 20 years.

Sister Hindman was preceded in death by her husband Howard Walker Hindman, Sr., Fulton Arkansas; and son Howard Walker Hindman Jr. (no children) (Marcelus  Briscoe ( great grandson – no children). She leaves to rejoice in her homegoing: her beloved children, Dorothy Hindman, San Antonio TX and Harriet Debra Gay (Alvin decease d),

Texarkana AR; adopted sons Glen Austin, Sr., Wake Village TX, Roy Moore, Texarkana TX; adopted daughter, Shirley Baker Shields, Ft.Worth TX; her two grandchildren, Kimberly S. Houston, San Antonio, Marques D. Brigham I, Aurora Colorado; her four great grandchildren, Marques D, Brigham II, Myles Brigham and Malcom Brigham (Aurora CO ); Lyric Vigil (Laramie WY); best friends Jean Hamilton (Texarkana TX), Francis Shears (Texarkana TX), Irma Davis (Las Vegas NV); many relatives, friends, and her Lonoke and Macedonia Church families!

Private services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, March 26, 2020 at the Haynes Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at the Gethsemane Cemetery in Naples, TX. Online registration available at www.haynesmortuary.com
