Obituary

Ms. Emogene Christopher was born March 22, 1935 in McNeil, Arkansas to the parentage of Farce Desoto Christopher and Vester Alice Alexander Christopher. She was the second child born to this union. During the early years of the family's residing in McNeil, Emogene attended the public school. As the family grew and her father's employment in the field of education required them to move to Lewisville, Arkansas, Emogene continued to receive the foundation that led her to also become an educator. Eventually, the family moved to Ashdown, Arkansas where the family established a permanent residence. Emogene graduated from Little River County Training School, as the high school was named at that time. She attended college after graduating from high school and earned her bachelor's degree from Bishop College in Marshall, Texas. Later, she attained her master's degree from the University of North Texas in Denton.

While her professional aspirations developed from her father's influence, Emogene's mother honed her artistic skill as a pianist, enabling her to share her gift with many through Christian service and within her work as a teacher. She loved teaching, and Second Grade was her area of emphasis. For many years, Emogene taught at Carver Elementary School in Texarkana, Arkansas. With the advent of the integration of schools, she taught at various elementary schools within Texarkana Arkansas School District. Her last professional post was at Trice Elementary School in Texarkana, Arkansas, having taught for twenty-seven years before retiring.

Emogene accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age, and her dedication to her faith grew throughout the years of her life. As a youth, she united with the family's home church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, later name Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ashdown, Arkansas. Her service of faith included working as a church musician in the city of Texarkana USA.

Emogene departed this earthly life on June 12, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Creamus Christopher and Max Christopher. She is survived by her siblings: Cordell Christopher (Marva) of Tacoma, Washington, Landon Christopher, Olivia Christopher, and Elton Christopher of Texarkana, Arkansas, Nathan Christopher (Rita) of Dallas, Texas and Dr. Sandra Christopher Austin (Glen) of Wake Village, Texas. She is also survived by a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, additional family members and friends.
