Ethel Louise Jones Brewster 93 passed away on June 3rd at a local hospital in Texarkana. She was born March 27, 1930 in Texarkana, Texas to Edna Bridgeman and Jessie Jones. She was a homemaker and a singer. She loved rhythm and blues, hip hop, country and western and gospel.
Louise was preceded in death by her sister Betty Jean and her husband of 59 years Artis Brewster, Sr.
In 1951 she moved to El Dorado, Arkansas and lived there for 10 years. While in El Dorado she worked with her husband in the music industry playing for dances in Arkansas and Louisiana. The highlight of her career was playing for a dance at the Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana.
In the 60's she and her husband moved to California. In 1969 Louise attended nursing school, passed the California board and worked in that field for a while. Louise was also fortunate to work for celebrities and millionaires, one being the family of the late Howard Hughes.
While in California, Louise united with the First AME Church by the Sea in Santa Monica. She was a member there for 40 years. When the couple retired and moved back home to Texarkana, Louise claimed Lonoke Baptist Church as her church home.
She is survived by her son - Artis Brewster, Jr. of Texarkana, Arkansas; her daughter - Vickie Diane Brewster of Tempe, Arizona; her grandson - Christopher Brewster; two sisters-in-law - Frances Brewster and Bobbie Brewster both of Texarkana.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Haynes Mortuary. The funeral service will be Friday, June 9th at Lonoke Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dwight Burks officiating and Rev. Arthur Hill as the eulogist. Online registration is available at www.haynesmortuary.com.
