Mrs. Ethel L Brown daughter of the late Tom Martin and Ocie Waites was born on July 9, 1942 in Hooks,
Texas. She graduated high school with the class of 1960 at Dunbar High in Texarkana, Texas. She
furthered her education at Texarkana College a diploma of nursing as a Licensee Vocational Nursing.
After working as an LVN for a a few years at Wadley Hospital she assumed a position as a rural mail
carrier for the US postal service she completed her career and retired with the postal service.
She met Christ at an early age and was baptized at Red Bank Baptist Church in Hooks Texas. She was
united in holy matrimony on January 25, 1962 to Carl Benjamin Brown, and they were married for 38
wonderful years before his passing in 2000. This union was blessed with two children. Donald (Tosha)
Brown of Texarkana Texas and Cheryl "Sue" (Randall) Crockett of Van Alstyne, Texas.
After marriage she united with New Hope Baptist where she was an active member for several decades
under the leadership of the late Rev. Mayfield Brewster, in her later Christian walk she joined
Macedonia Baptist Church where she was a faithful member even as her health began to decline.
She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, (Brother) Lloyd Cecil Waites, (Sister) Opal Moss,
(Brother) Verdett Martin.
She will forever be cherished in the lives of her children Donald and Sue. Three loving granddaughters –
Chasiti (Brandon) Barnett – Texarkana Texas, Megan (Gregory) Carey – West Bloomfield MI, Kelsie –
Texarkana, Texas. One great grandson that stole her on Valentine's Day - Kylen Brown, One Great
Grand Daughter – Blaire Barnett: Her brother Luther Waites (Oletha) – Huntsville, Alabama and Pinkie
Houff (Jessie) - Texarkana Texas, and a host of devoted family and friends.
