Obituary

Fulton Johnson, 83 of Texarkana, Texas died on Friday, January 23, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Friendship Baptist Church - Buchanan Road - at 11:00 a.m.

Viewing will be from 10:00 - 11:00 - one hour prior to the service

After the viewing (one hour prior to the service) the casket will be CLOSED.

Fulton Leon Johnson was born on April 15, 1942 to Juanita and Jerry Johnson.

Fulton's early childhood was spent on Buchanan Rd, Texarkana, TX helping his parents on the farm raising animals, tending the fields, helping out with his younger siblings and the family store.

Fulton accepted Christ at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church. He later became a long standing member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist church, and when he returned to Texarkana he returned to his childhood church home Friendship Baptist Church.

Fulton graduated from Dunbar Senior High School on May 31st, 1960. He was honorably discharged from the US Army on February 28, 1970.

After his discharge from the Army he moved back to Topeka, KS where he became a machinist and worked for companies such as Hydratool, Topeka Foundry & Iron Works, and Essex Wire.

Fulton was loved by everyone who came in contact with him. His jovial spirit and sense of humor captivated everyone. He never met a stranger and could make you feel right at home when you met him. His love for music and his singing abilities were remarkable and he thoroughly enjoyed singing in the choir at both Mt. Olive and Friendship Baptist churches.

Fulton was an outdoorsman in every sense of the word. You could catch him many days outside in his garden growing vegetables and fruits to feed his family & friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved taking trips to get the big catch! He loved playing softball and was very active with his team and coaching his grandson DeAndre. One of his favorite passions was making different flavors of wine and growing the grapes and berries to flavor his masterpieces.

Fulton was called home to be with God on January 23, 2026.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Jerry & Juanita Johnson, his wife Frankie Johnson with whom he shared two daughters, his brother William Johnson, & his sister Martha Briggs. His nephews Richard Johnson and Kedric Cranford.

He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters DeLoma Johnson of Topeka, KS and Marilynn Johnson of Houston, TX. His grandchildren DeAndre Harvey, Zayah Johnson, and Amara Johnson and a Godson Jordan Ross. His sisters Dorothy Hunter, Gayla Johnson Cranford, Vivian Starkes(Henry), Jerrie Johnson, and Lula Denice Lowe. His brothers Wendell Johnson(Willie) and Odis Johnson(Sharon). And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a lady friend.
