Funeral service for Gurtha L Davis, 77 of Hooks, Texas died on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in Texarkana, Texas.

A very sweet and loved Gurtha Lee Davis 77, of Hooks, Texas, transitioned peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday December 9, 2025. Ms. Davis entered this life May 4, 1948 in Leary, Texas. At a young age she joined the Leary Chapel Baptist church where she gave her life to Jesus Christ. She was retired from Dillard's Store in retail management where she put a smile on everyone's face for many years. She was a member of the Linden Church of God in Christ, where she served as a faithful Mother and Usher. She loved to pray for and encourage others, read her Holy Bible, and to sing in the choir. She loved spending precious time on outings with her family and friends. She had the sweetest most humble spirit filled with love for all of God's people. The love and joy she had for The Lord she shared with all she encountered.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband John Henry Davis Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Alex J. Kennedy,  Alabama, Tony W. Kennedy Sr. (Tiffany) Redwater, TX, Robert Malone (Taylor), Dallas, TX, three step-sons, Barry S. Davis, John H. Davis Jr., Jarrette R. Davis (Usheka) and three step daughters, Marla Davis-Barlow and Corretta E. Davis of Texarkana, Texas, and Crystal L. Richie of Waco, Texas, 6 Sisters; Essie Aubrey, Dessie Stewart, Diane Kennedy, Barbara Brooks (Bobby), Shelia Starks and Margaret Lewis, 2 Brothers; Andrew Jackson (Michelle), and Timothy Jackson (Tammie), her wonderful twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren she loved to love on, along with a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and a very special church family community that all love her dearly.

Visitation will be Wednesday 12/17/25 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Haynes Mortuary. The funeral service will be Thursday 12/18/25 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Church of God In Christ 1603 Lee Street Texarkana, Texas, where the Pastor Supt. Corey Robinson (she served faithfully under for many years) will be the Eulogist. Pastor Kenneth Thornton of Leary Chapel Baptist Church will be Officiating. The Burial will be at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Haynes Mortuary following the service.
