Obituary

Mr. Jessie James Hurd, known as "Twinkie", was born on September 18, 1941, to the late Willie and Leila Hurd of New Boston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his siblings Margie Hurd, Willie Hurd, Jr., Larry Hurd and Harold Hurd. He also lost his daughter, Stephanie Hurd McCoy and his grandson, Aaron D. Hurd.

During his younger years, Jessie met and married Cynthia Maria Walker and produced two daughters and three grandchildren. They were married for fifty-five years, and the Lord blessed this union.

In his later years, he became saved under the leadership of the late Pastor K.C. Body, SR. where he was ordained and became a deacon at the Prosperity Baptist Church. Through unfortunate circumstances, he moved his membership to St. Joseph Baptist Church in Old Boston, Texas where he was Chairman of the Deacon Board. He eventually had to give up the position due to his health issues, but he remained faithful to his beliefs. Jessie was a good-hearted person who tried to help whoever came to him and that is how his blessings grew.

Jessie graduated from Central High School in New Boston. He was employed at Lone Star Ammunition Plant for thirteen years before being laid-off. He then applied for a job at International Paper at Domino, Texas where he worked for thirty-seven years as a mechanic until his retirement. His peers at his old job would come by to see Jessie because they knew how he loved to play dominoes and talk jive to them. He always had to have the last word in a conversation and he always spoke his mind to whomever he was around.

Jessie departed this earthly life on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. he leaves to cherish loving memories: wife, Cynthia Hurd of New Boston, Texas; daughter, Rhonda Denice Hurd of New Boston, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher R. Hurd and Christian D. Hurd of New Boston, Texas; god-daughter, Lakeisha Brown of New Boston, Texas; brother, Otis Hurd (Mary) of New Boston, Texas; sisters, Sallie Alexander (Willie), Vivian Peterson and Myrtle Sutton of New Boston, TX and Mary Lou Hurd of McKinney, Texas; special friends, Phoenix Williams and Cleo Phillips, Jr. of New Boston, Texas and Wayne Cheatem of Hooks, Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
