John Edward Rhone, Sr passed away peacefully at Christus St Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas on Wednesday, September 9, 2020.  He was 89 years young.

John was born in Ogden, Arkansas to Oscar Rhone, Sr and Sarah Oliver Rhone on January 2, 1931).  After high school, John enlisted in the Navy and received numerous awards during his service as a hospital corpsman in Korea (National Defense Service Award, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Medal, Korean Service Ribbon).  During this time, John married Ruth Render and that marriage produced a son, Michael.

After John's honorable discharge in 1955, he moved to Oakland, California (following his brother Augusta "Ron" Rhone) and met Joyce Gary, who was visiting her sister who had just relocated from New Orleans.  The 2 were married in 1957 – that union produced 4 children:  Joi, Steven, Terri and John Jr.

After graduating from San Francisco Mortuary College, John soon found work with Alameda County as a Deputy Coroner/Investigator.  In addition to this full-time job, John and his wife Joyce were successful business owners with a liquor store (J&J Liquors) and many rental properties in the SF Bay Area.  After retiring from Alameda County with more than 30 years, John, along with Joyce, relocated back to Texarkana, Texas.  John was a faithful member of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church until his passing.

John will be remembered most for his wit, sense of style and dedication and commitment to family.  He was always going to tell you what he thought, whether you asked for it or not!

John is survived by his children- daughter Joi Rhone of Brentwood, CA, sons Steven (Kathy) Rhone of Goodyear, AZ and John Rhone, Jr of Newport Beach, CA;  grandchildren Michaela Rhone of Oakland, CA and Kenzo Benvenuto (Rhone) of Northridge, CA; brother Augusta (Jessie) Rhone of Fairfield, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews and family who will cherish the memories of 89 years of John's life.  John is also survived by his 1 ^st wife Ruth Render (Seattle, WA) and 3 ^rd wife Alice Rhone (Crockett, CA).

John was preceded into heaven by his wife Joyce Rhone, daughter Terri Rhone, son Michael Rhone, parents Oscar Rhone Sr and Sarah Rhone, brothers Timothy "Bug" Rhone, Tony Rhone, Oscar Rhone Jr, Anderson Rhone and sister Madie Rhone.
