Joyce Ann Shields Henry was born August 26, 1958 in Texarkana, Texas. She was the eighth child born to the late Hearthia and Irene Shields. She received her educational background at Redwater ISD in Redwater, Texas and also attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas.

Growing up, she attended Martin Chapel CME Church in Redwater, Texas and later became a member of Flower Acres Baptist Church in Texarkana, Texas. She was a Crossing Guard for Redwater ISD and served with the Food Bank at Flower Acres.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Hearthia and Irene Shields, three brothers, Will H. Shields, Robert Lee Shields, and Clarence Shields, one sister, Bettie Jean Shields, and her husband Arthur Eugene Henry, Sr.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: three children, Ta'Nisha N. Cage, Monique S. Shields, and Arthur Eugene Henry Jr.; grandchildren, Cameren Lee Patterson, Shaquan Lamya Shields, Shavon Henry, and Arthur Eugene Henry III; great-grandchild, Malik Juawan Johnson Jr.; two brothers, Morris Shields (Patricia) and James E. Shields; one sister, Georgia (Woodrow) Evans; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Shields and Doris Shields; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
