Obituary

I was born in Scott, Arkansas on June 15, 1949 to the late Fred Lee Baker and Cozetta Taylor-Houston. I was one of 10 children and was raised by my late grandparents, Archie and Gertrude Taylor.

I accepted Christ at an early age in Scott, Arkansas and later united with the Antioch Baptist Church in New Boston, Texas where I was a faithful member. I served as a member of the choir, Youth Sunday School teacher, and Youth Director, Esther and Naomi Circle, Eagles, and various community faith-based mission groups until my health failed me. I had a passion for the youth in the community in which I served as a Girl Scout leader, Lion Band Mom and chaperone, and mentor and tutor at Christian Coalition for Unity for area school-age children. My work career included several positions at Red River Army Depot from sandblasting and paint to retiring as a Hazardous Waste Supervisor.

I was preceded in death by late parents and grandparents, my sisters, Vera Ann Scruggs, Malissa Rudolph, and Gloria Lewis, my brother, Fred Baker, Jr., my cousin, Bernard Baker, my mother-in-law, Jerelene Jennings, my sisters-in-law, Barbara Noel, Ida Jennings, and Eva Jackson, and my niece, Stephanie Jennings.

I leave my three children (union of JL Jennings, Sr.) to carry on my legacy: Marsha (Jennings) Lewis of Longview, Texas, LaTisha Jennings of New Boston, Texas, and JL (Ashley) Jennings of Fayetteville, Arkansas; my grandchildren, Dominique (Earnest) Hicks, Calvin L. Lewis, Jr., Kiara Jennings, and Kadence Jennings; my great-grandchild, Brex W. Hicks; my bonus children, Tina (Henry) Robinson, Tracy (Kevin) Washington, Jayme (Bill) Givens and Kim Scruggs; my sisters, Reola Baker Moore, Patsy Baker Blackshear, Linda Nevils, Mable Wright, Billie Smith, Gertie (Raynor) Ricks, Toylee (Turk) Harris, and Kweli Kitwana; brothers, Rev. Willie B. (Kathy) Baker, Reginald (Kathy) Baker, John (Alma) Jackson, Jesse Green, and William Green; my uncle, Archie Taylor, Jr.; my cousin, Viola Murphy; my sisters-in-law, Winifred Baker, Pearlene Jennings, Dale Jennings, and Wanda Jennings; my brothers-in-law, James Scruggs, William Jennings, Roy Jennings, and Gary Jennings. I have a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
