Mrs. Laverne Dansby Garrison was born on November 16, 1939, in Miller County, Arkansas to the late James Newman Dansby, Sr. and Jennie R. Whitmore Dansby. She passed away peacefully on September 23, 2023, at the age of 83.
Laverne was raised in Mandeville, Arkansas along with her 6 brothers and 5 sisters. She attended Booker T. Washington High School and graduated with the Class of 1957. Upon graduation from High School, She attended Wiley College in Marshall,Texas and Philander Smith University in Little Rock, Arkansas. After college, She moved back home to Texarkana, Arkansas (Sandflat, USA).
Laverne married her beloved husband, the late Rev. Herbert "Top Cat" Garrison, Sr., on March 31, 1978. They were married for 44 years. To their union, they had 3 children, Joseph, Nina, and Samuel, "Sammy", Garrison. Laverne was a proud Mother & Grandmother. She enjoyed spending quality time with all of her children and grandchildren. She was affectionately known as the ''Neighborhood Mother" to the children, teens and young adults in Sanflat, USA. Her door, kitchen and domino/card table were open to the people that she loved, and she was loved by all who knew her.
Laverne faithfully worked at the Lonestar Ammunition Plant for over 15 years. While living in Texarkana, Arkansas, She was a Member of the Texarkana Arkansas School Board and an active member of the Sandflat Community. She was also a member of Mount Pleasant CME Church, where she served a member of the choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Newman Dansby, Sr. and Jennie R. Whitmore Dansby; Her Husband, Rev. Herbert "Top Cat" Garrison, Sr.; and Her Brothers Emmitt Dansby, Theodore Dansby and Lester Dansby.
She is survived by her children: Joseph Garrison, Nina Garrison, Samuel 'Sammy' Garrison, Karen Duvall & Herbert Garrison, Jr.; Her grandchildren: Anaya Garrison, Reginald Black, Cassius Garrison, Cruz Bragg, & Iyrie Readeamer; Her Sisters: Ermer (Ricky) Pondexter, Jammie Dansby, Justine Dollarhide, Cylestine (Vance) Thornton, and Brinder (Ray C) Bursey; Her Brothers: James (Joyce) Dansby, Jr., Lathaire Dansby, and Adrin Dansby, Sr.; Special Friend, Bonnie Jean May; And a host of family members and friends.
