Obituary

Lawrence Edward Williams, affectionately known as "Squirrell" was born in Linden, Texas on November 29, 1944 to Lee Williams, Sr. and Fannie Mae Givens Williams.

He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1963. Shortly after graduating he was inducted into the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1966.

Lawrence began his career at the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant in Texarkana. Overcoming various barriers and obstacles, he rose through the ranks to become the first African American Lieutenant. He was the supervisor of Fire Prevention and Safety and was a certified Emergency Medical Technician.

On September 10, 1996, Lawrence and Gwendolyn Faye were united in Holy Matrimony and blended their family of three loving daughters. With an unwavering devotion, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Lawrence gave his life to Christ and became a dedicated member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he has served in several ministries including Brotherhood, Deacon, Mission, New member orientation, Sunday School and Youth. He was a loyal, faithful and dedicated member desiring to be a vessel for the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers – Robert Charles Williams and Lee Williams.

Lawrence entered eternal rest on August 30th.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Gwendolyn Williams, three daughters – Angela Featherson, Barbretta Baker (Brandon) and Kimberly Webb (Christopher); sister – Fannie Brown; brother – Charles Edward Williams (Nedra) sister-in-law – Millie Williams; ten grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services: visitation – Friday from 2:30 – 4:30p.m. at the mortuary. Funeral – Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial – Chapelwood Memorial Gardens with military honors.

MASKS ARE REQUIRED AT BOTH SERVICES            (NOT PROVIDED BY THE MORTUARY)
