Obituary

Leon Alexander, age 96, was called away to an eternal rest on September 21, 2023. He
was born on June 22, 1927, in Maud, Texas to parents Alberta and Norman Alexander.
Leon served his community as a strong sustaining role model for so many. He was the
epitome of love, support, resilience, leadership and faith for his family and friends.

When asked what his happiest memory was, he always said it was marrying his
childhood friend and the love of his life, Ruby Dell Sanders on October 19, 1946, and 9
children later, they were happily married for 70 years.

He enlisted in the navy and proudly served his country before furthering his education;
he obtained a degree in mechanics from Bishop College Trade School in December 1948.
Shortly after receiving his mechanics degree, he started working at Red River Army
Depot as an Automotive Mechanic. In 1982 Leon retired from Red River Army Depot
after being employed there for over 30 years. He was the first African American Branch
Chief in the mechanical department and the first African American Assistant to the
Division Chief of Red River.

Leon was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church for over 30 years and served on the
Board of Trustees for most of that time. He valued family and religion and felt his best
life's lessons were how to strengthen his faith, study the bible, and how to serve the
Lord.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Ruby Dell Alexandar, his parents Alberta and
Norman Alexander, and his children Ethel Johnson and Leroy Alexander. He is survived
by 4 daughters: Delores Pickett (Robert) of Texarkana, TX; Patricia Love (Larry) of
Linden, TX; Janice Hill (Paul) of Texarkana, TX and Yolanda Miller (Barry) of Texarkana,
TX. 3 Sons: Leon Alexandar Jr. of Texarkana, TX; Tommy Alexander of Texarkana, AR and
Reginald Alexander of Texarkana, TX; as well as a host of grandchildren, great
grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
