Obituary

Lloyd Weldon Fort, 92, of Texarkana, AR, transitioned peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Wadley Hospital. He was born on August 1, 1927 in Hooks, Texas to Mathis Sylvester Fort, Sr. and Minnie Ola Lockhart Fort and was the 7th of 10 children.
Mr. Fort was a graduate of Hooks Colored High School and a longtime member of Lonoke Baptist Church where he served in the male chorus for a season. He was retired from Raytheon Corporation and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his first wife Evelyn, siblings R.E. Fort, Sr., Seaony Fort Lomax, H.M. Fort, Grace Lee Fort Gouldsby, Mathis Sylvester, Jr., Ostine Fort Hearon, and one grandson, David Fort.
Survivors include: his wife, Ernestine; siblings, R.T. Fort, Everett Fort and Willie Fort; sister-in-law, Viola Holmes Fort; his children, James (Gertrude), Sandra, Gerald (Terri), Edith, Deryl (Lois) and Eric; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, his FAVORITE nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing for Mr. Fort will be Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 2:30 – 4:30 PM at Haynes Mortuary. Private graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 10, 2020 at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens with Pastor Arthur Hill, Sr. officiating. All attendees are encouraged to wear masks and practice social distancing. Services will be livestreamed via Youtube at TXK Memorial. Online registration is available at www.haynesmortuary.com
