Lois Jean Harden passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, with her family at her side. Born on January 24, 1930, to the late Albee Spates and Faye Elizabeth Spates, Lois lived a rich life marked by love, commitment to education, and unwavering dedication to her beloved family.

Lois was a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a loyal friend. She is survived by her dear son, Shawn Harden and his wife Sharon, and her adored grandchildren, Shana Ware, Arielle Harden, Andrea Bass, Brian Taylor, Aaron Harden, Terran Watson, and Chloe Harden. Lois also leaves behind ten great grandchildren, and five great, great grandchildren.  Lois' love and dedication for her family was evident in every interaction. Her life was a testimony of passion, resilience, and affection, and she will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Albee Spates and Faye Elizabeth Spates, her brothers, Joseph and Rufus Spates, her devoted son, Robert Lee Harden Jr. , and her beloved daughter, Sheryl Ware. The void left by their absence was felt deeply, yet she found strength in the love and support she received from her family.

Lois devoted over 40 years of her life to enriching the lives of others through education—a true reflection of her perseverance and unwavering dedication. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Music from Paul Quinn College in 1951 and went on to receive her Master's degree in Education from East Texas A&M University in 1979. Beginning her teaching career at Trinidad High School in 1951 and later continuing at Macedonia High School-which later became Liberty-Eylau after the school's integrated-from 1957 until her retirement in 1991. Lois inspired generations of students with her belief in the power of education and the difference it could make in their lives.

Lois was a caring, straightforward, and tenacious woman who found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved starting her mornings with bacon and a glass of orange juice, and she found peace in watching the news throughout the day. Her hobbies reflected her calm and thoughtful nature—she enjoyed sewing, taking morning walks, and was often found engrossed in a good book.

Lois' life was deeply enriched by the love she gave and received from her family and friends. Her stories, wisdom, and unwavering love will continue to guide and inspire all who knew her. A long, beautiful life well lived and a soul never forgotten-Lois Harden, your memory will forever be held in our hearts.
