Mary Ellen
Curry
Apr 28, 1932 — Jan 4, 2020
Mary E. Curry entered Glory and joined the "Great Cloud of Witnesses on January 04, 2020. Her commitment and devotion to her family and firm, unwavering belief in God supported her throughout her life.
Mary was born to the late Robert Davis and Margaret Torrence on April 28, 1932. She was the beloved "Baby" of the family of thirteen children. Mary was immersed in the Christian Community that served as her lifelong guide and support at an early age. She joined the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Stephens, Arkansas where she was an active member through her early years and continued to support Cedar Grove both Spiritually and financially throughout her life.
Mary married Clarence H. Curry, Sr., of McNeil Arkansas on November 29, 1949 and moved to Saginaw, Michigan where Clarence was employed by General Motors. It was there that the first of their three children was born, Clarence H. Curry, Jr. Subsequently, Mary's desire to be near her Mother resulted in the young family's move back to Arkansas where they settled in Texarkana, Arkansas. Clarence assumed employment with the Cotton Belt/Southern Pacific Railroad Company and Mary assumed the duties of a "stay at home" wife and Mother. Two additional children were added, Patricia A. Curry and Shirley M. Curry. Immediately upon arriving in Texarkana, Mary and Clarence joined and became active members of the Eleventh Street Baptist Church where they (both) were active participants in the "Life of the Church" and the building of "God's Kingdom on Earth". Mary served faithfully for years on the Church's Usher Board, as a Deaconess and as member of the Mission Board. Mary loved her family, she loved Eleventh Street Baptist Church but most of all, (as all who knew her can attest), she loved "The Lord".
Mary is survived by her son, Clarence H. Curry, Jr., (Brenda) Boonton, New Jersey, and daughters Rev. Patricia Curry Porter (William) and Shirley M. Curry, both of Maumelle, Arkansas; grandchildren Felicia Curry, Clarence H.Curry, III, Kimberly Khalil (Darryl), Laquita Desmuke, Carl Desmuke, Jr. (Caprisha) and Sean M. Curry; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mary was preceded in death by eleven siblings.
