Dr. Pauline J. Haynes was born Pauline J. Harris in Paris, Texas to the late Rev. Dr. J.H. Harris and Beatrice Boyd Harris. She was adored by her parents who taught her to trust and accept God as her Savior. Her parents were instrumental in teaching her to be honest faithful and to love mankind. These qualities influenced her hard work and love for education.

After graduating from Cheatham High School in Clarksville, Texas, she studied and majored in sociology, minored in economics, and received her bachelor's degree from Bishop College in Marshall, Texas. After graduating she matriculated to Houston, Texas to teach school while playing for various church choirs in the area for approximately fourteen years.

When Dr. Haynes married her childhood sweetheart, Thomas E. Haynes, she relocated to Texarkana to continue her teaching career. She first began teaching in Maud, followed by Hooks, before settling into the Texarkana Independent School District, during which time she earned her master's degree in education from East Texas State University – Texarkana. She retired from TISD in 1980 and ultimately became involved in the family business, still known as Haynes Mortuary of Texarkana.

Dr. Haynes, with her thirst for education, furthered her studies in theology with the United Theological Seminary Extension School of Texarkana, Texas, as well as Monroe, Louisiana. In accordance with these studies, she was bestowed an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Theology. Additionally, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Theology from the Texarkana Baptist Seminary.

Amid her activities, Dr. Haynes serves or has served on many boards and maintained memberships among the following:

• Past member for 4 years, Texarkana Chamber of Commerce
• Past board member, YWCA
• Member, National Education Association
• Member, Texas Model Cities Education Subcommittee Board of Directors
• Texas Parent Teachers' Association
• Retired Senior Volunteers Program (RSVP) and Meals on Wheels
• Member, Las Amigas Social Club, Top Ladies of Distinction, and Phi Delta Kappa Sorority
• Member and Trustee of the Greater New Hope Baptist Church where she served as Minister of Music for 33 years.
• Lifetime Member of NAACP
• Member, Texas Retired Teachers Association
• Licensed Funeral Director in the state of Arkansas.

After the demise of her husband, Dr. Haynes became owner and CEO of Haynes Mortuary, Incorporated. She continued to operate the soon to be 51-year-old business with the utmost pride but demonstrates even more pride in acknowledging their three children: Lillian R. (Dwight) Haynes-Dulaney of San Diego, California, Andrea Jeanette (Donald) Haynes-Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri, and Thomas E. (Barbara) Haynes, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Nicol Dodd and Armon Dodd of San Diego, California, Shaliss M. (Franc) Railey-Padilla of Oceanside, California, Dr. Kenyon M. Railey of Durham, North Carolina, and Thomas E. Haynes, III of High Point, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Sierra Dodd-Bowen of San Diego, California, and Caleb, Keaton and Chloe Railey of Durham, North Carolina.

She also leaves to cherish her love and legacy: employees of Haynes Mortuary Incorporated, a host of other family members and friends…all of which she loved dearly.

She genuinely loved people and never met a stranger and freely spoke "I Love You" followed by a hug to all she encountered. This love was continuously demonstrated by her willingness to help anyone, be it family, friend, or stranger whether that need was large or small.

Mrs. Haynes truly loved the Lord and the way she lived her life of serving Him and others was a testament to this
