Peggy Joyce McClellan was born September 13, 1946 to Mary Crawford McClellan and David McClellan. Peggy attended Jones Kinder, Jones Elementary School and was a 1963 graduate of Dunbar High School. after high school Peggy attended Bishop College in Dallas, TX and graduated in 1969.

After graduating, she moved to Chicago to begin her teaching career. She taught school in Texarkana, Dallas, and Los Angeles school districts. That was her love (teaching school) and always tried to give all she could to help the children, from buying supplies to staying after hours to help them.

Peggy grew up an "only" child, but she had a large grand family on both sides of her family; therefore, she never felt "only".

Peggy was affiliated with the NABSE- National Alliance Black School Educators, Alpha Kappa Alpha as well as the Association of the Study of African American Life and History.

A memorial service will be held in her honor at the Polly Chapel Baptist Church on Saturday, September 3rd at 1:00 p.m.
