Percy Nolan Bruce was born on December 18, 1960 in Texarkana, Texas to the parentage of the late Rev. Elmer Bruce Jr., and Jewel Thomas Bruce. Percy attended Texarkana Public Schools and graduated from Texas Senior High School in 1979. He accepted Christ as Savior in his early years.
From an early age, Percy Bruce was a standout football player at Grim elementary school. In one Milk Bowl, Percy scored thirty-two points. He went on to be a standout full back and running back at Pine Street Junior High and Texas High School racking up 1000-yard seasons and All-District honors. Percy was named to the All-District team and was voted Most Valuable Player and Outstanding Offensive Player. He was named to the sports writers All-League two years in a row. Percy received scholarships to Henderson State University and Lamar University where before being sidelined with injury, was honored as Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the year. He was selected as an Outstanding Young Man by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Percy was employed for several years at the Brown and Miller Pickle plant. He was later employed at Alumax Aluminum Company where he worked as a licensed engineer until his retirement in 2009.
Percy was preceded in death by his parents Elmer & Jewel Bruce Jr., and two brothers Haywood Earl Bruce and Michael Wade Bruce I. He leaves to mourn his passing his longtime companion Sonya Aimes, one sister Leatha (Don) Washington of Terrell, Texas, three brothers, Rev. James (Levolia) Bruce and Anthony Bruce of Texarkana, Texas, and Attorney Darwin (Ayo) Bruce of Grand Prairie, Texas, and a host of other relatives and friends,
Services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Haynes Mortuary Chapel, 7238 W. 7 th Street, Texarkana, Texas 75501. Viewing will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. before the service. Interment will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens, Wake Village, TX.
