On September 13, 1944, in the small town of Quincy, Florida, a baby girl was born to the late Dan & Leona Hodges by the name of Rendy Mae Copeland. She attended and was a graduate of Carter-Parramore High School. She participated in various extracurricular activities including the Glee Club where she gained recognition for her angelic singing voice and received various awards. She later attended beauty school in St. Petersburg, Florida and obtained her cosmetology license.
Rendy joined the United States Navy Reserve in the early 70's where she remained until she was honorably medically discharged in 1995 as an E5.
Rendy was united in marriage to the late Leonard Jay Copeland. To their union, five children were born in addition to her oldest son, Dwayne Hodges. She worked in a variety of state clerical positions, as well as the Bowie County Courthouse until her retirement in 1997.
Known for her nurturing, free-spirited, and generous nature, Rendy spent her entire life catering and caring for others. She was a woman of sacrifice, full of words of wisdom and encouragement. As a woman who dearly loved her family, she dedicated her life to not only raising her own children alone, but opened her doors to anyone in need. Her hard-working ethics and determination resided with her until her demise. She was a true protector, warrior, and comforter to those she loved.
Rendy Mae Copeland transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Her brother, JW Hodges, also transitioned later that same day. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Helen Hodges, Charles Hodges, and Tyrone Teddleton, and one son, Dannie Copeland.
She leaves to cherish lasting memories: her children, Dwayne Hodges, Donnie Copeland, Devin Copeland, Dexter Copeland, and Detraell Copeland; siblings, Leon Hodges, Bobby Hodges, Wendell Teddleton, Glendell Teddleton, Terrell Teddleton, and Connie Teddleton; 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
