On Friday, January 19, 2024, Richard Learon Armstrong of Texarkana, Texas, was called home to his eternal resting place at the age of 85. Richard is survived by his first wife, Clarice Armstrong Taylor, Texarkana, his son Jeffery Armstrong, Atlanta, GA, his daughters, Yolanda Armstrong Hansen (Hans), Minneapolis, MN, Dr. Noreal Armstrong (Asheville, NC), his brother, William Lloyd Armstrong (Joyce), Richardson, TX, his nephew, Kevin Murphy (Sheri), Tampa, FL, his niece, Willette Armstrong (Garland, TX) and other cherished cousins.

Born on January 8, 1939, in Jefferson, Texas, Richard was preceded in death by his parents, William and Odell Armstrong, his brother, Joseph Armstrong and his sister, Helen Murphy. He graduated from Dunbar High School and went on to attend North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, where he graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. From there, he went on to obtain a Master's in Social Work from Hunter College (NYC) in 1973.

His Celebration of Life will be held at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 1505 Phenie Street, Texarkana, on Friday, February 2, 4 - 6pm, where expressions can be shared. Homegoing Services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, 11:00am, also at Mt. Pisgah, with the Repast immediately following at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Family Life Center, 2921 Norris Cooley Drive, Texarkana. Flowers and condolences can be sent to Haynes Mortuary, 7238 W. 7th Street, Texarkana.

Our father was a faithful member of the Texarkana community and a devout member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He was recently honored on Sunday, January 7, 2024, for 33 years of service as Sunday School Superintendent.

There will never be enough words to express the gratitude our family feels for the outpouring of condolences and support we have received since the unfortunate passing of our father and the loss of our childhood home to fire. We know our father would be moved to tears for all that is being done to honor his memory and his esteemed legacy of love, friendship and education.
