Ruben Maxwell, 82 of Horatio, Arkansas died on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Funeral service is scheduled for June 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Roland Piggee Memorial Baptist Church - 1415 AR-27 Lockesburg, AR 71842.
Visitation will be at New Zion Baptist Church - DeQueen, AR Friday, June 5th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Ruben Maxwell was born on September 7, 1943, in White Cliffs, Arkansas, to the union
of Meredith and Berta Crosslin Maxwell. He departed this life on Monday, May 25, 2026,
at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
He was a 1961 graduate of Howard County School in Tollett, Arkansas. At an early age,
he joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in White Cliffs, Arkansas. After high school, Ruben
worked as a cowboy on Platt's Ranch. When his cowboy days came to an end, he
worked at Vance Nutt Service Station before accepting a position at Lone Star
Ammunition Plant. After being laid off from Lone Star, he began working at Pilgrim's
Pride in De Queen, where he faithfully served for 37 years until his retirement.
In 1965, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Coulter, and to this union three children
were born: Miranda, Rodney, and Jarrod.
In 1979, he was blessed with a son, Reganale Williams.
In 1985, Ruben was united in marriage to Beverly Garland, and to this union one
daughter, Brianna, was born.
In 2013 Ruben joined New Zion Baptist Church in DeQueen, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; three brothers, Meredith Crosslin,
Meredith Maxwell, and Charles Maxwell; one daughter, Miranda Maxwell; one son,
Rodney Maxwell; and one nephew, Wilbert Crosslin.
He leaves to cherish his memory:
His loving wife, Beverly Garland Maxwell of Horatio, Arkansas; two sons, Jarrod
Maxwell of Lockesburg, Arkansas, and Reganale (Angela) Williams of Pauls Valley,
Oklahoma; one daughter, Brianna Maxwell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother,
Lester (Dorothy) Piggee of Jacksonville, Arkansas; one sister, Shirley Maxwell Piggee of
Lockesburg, Arkansas; two sisters-in-law, Mary Crosslin of Lockesburg, Arkansas, and
Deborah (Michael) Crow of Gurdon, Arkansas; six grandchildren, LaQuanta Maxwell of
Texarkana, Texas, Juane Maxwell of Lockesburg, Arkansas, Jaylon Britt of Nashville,
Arkansas, Jakila (Bau) Matumona of Independence, Iowa, Tamyra Lewis of Pauls
Valley, Oklahoma, and Anthony Williams of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; four great-
grandchildren; four nieces; seven nephews; one bonus brother, Cleven Piggee of
Lockesburg, Arkansas; and two godsons, DeMarco Piggee of Nashville, Arkansas, and
Keon Piggee of Mineral Springs, Arkansas and a host of cousins and friends.
