OBITUARY

Sarah Lanier Lomax Henderson was born in Hooks, Texas on Tuesday, May 8, 1928, to the late Luckey and Bessie (Singleton) Lomax. She departed this life on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in Texarkana, Texas.

Affectionately known to many in the community as "Granny," she lived a quiet life founded on her faith in Jesus Christ, sprinkled with friends, family time fun, and work which was woven with purpose and perseverance.

Before she was "Granny", she was known as "Baby Sister" to her family -- especially to her older brother, Augustus, his wife Annie Bell Lomax, and her Singleton-side first cousins: Roland Harris, Samuel "Top" Singleton and Ernest Singleton. All have preceded her in death.

She united with the Cedar Springs Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and faithfully served in many auxiliaries of the church: choir president, Sunday School teacher, financial secretary, and church historian. She served in these capacities and regularly studied the Bible
until her health failed. However, she never ceased to tell others about the goodness of Jesus.

She attended Hooks Colored High School and graduated as the Salutatorian of her class of eight students on May 23, 1946. She later married Lindy B. Henderson. She was blessed with three children whom she loved dearly.

She assisted with the love, care and upbringing of her grandchildren, Stacey and De'Ana (Dee) and bonus grandchildren, Jeniffer and Walter Ross. She also enjoyed caring for her land and cattle. She found even more joy in caring for her great-grandchildren, JaJuan, Kiana and Kyron.
Outside of the home, she was employed at Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant and later St. Michael Hospital. However, most of her working years were spent as a professional housekeeper for many families in the Hooks community. It is estimated that she was employed by more than 30 families over the course of 50 years — a lifetime of honest, steady work that became her quiet ministry to others as she touched homes and hearts across generations.

It has been said that when Granny left a home at the end of her workday, you knew she had been there because she had put the finishing touches on things to make them, neat, clean, and in order. On June 24, 2026, at 5:23 p.m., God called her from her labor, and she left this earthly home. Yet, we know she has been here, because she touched the lives of so many people with her love,
wisdom and knowledge as she traveled along her life's journey.

One great-grandson, Jamil Henderson, preceded her in death. Sarah leaves to cherish her loving memories: her children Morris Henderson, Juanita Barlow and Rene' (Carliest) Daniels; her grandchildren, Stacey Barlow, Gia Henderson, Danyelle (Darrell) Reed, and De'Ana (Kendrick)
Smith; her great-grandchildren, JaJuan Henderson, Kiana Smith, Kyron Smith; her great-great grandchild, Adanni Reed; her grandchildren gained through a godparent relationship, Lieutenant Threadgill, Jr. and Tasha Harris; first cousins, W.T. Edmond, Georgia Faye Bables, and B.J. Hooks, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
