Shirley Ann Singleton Tubbs was born December 23rd, 1939 in Texarkana Texas to the late Essie Hill and Pettis Singleton Jr.
Her formative years began in Little Rock Arkansas after the death of her parents. Shirley's nurturing experiences were then begun by twin aunts, Ethel Culmore and Minnie Mendenhall of whom both have preceded her in death. She was the youngest of four sisters (the late) Dorothy Joe Johnson, (the late) Verna Mae Raven, (the late) Johnetta Virginia Mitchell, and (the late) Geraldine V. Reynolds.
Shirley taught for 30 years in the Texarkana Independent School District on the Elementary level. In the 1990 school year, she was designated as "Teacher of the Year". After retiring on the Texas side, she taught an additional six years in the Arkansas Independent School District.
She was an active participant within the community and church body. As a member of Polly Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, her enjoyment came from being a teacher in Summer VBS, Esther Circle, and as a Deaconess. In addition, Shirley was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority in which she was a Sponsor of Zeta's Youth Group and Zeta's Co-Chair of Hospitality. She also was a member of the Las Amigas Club in which numerous young ladies were sponsored as Debutantes over the years.
Mrs. Tubbs leaves to mourn her husband, Tommie Tubbs of 64 years; children ~ Tina Thompson (Randall) and Yolanda Crayton (John); 5 grandchildren; numerous brothers and sisters-in-love and a host of adored nieces, nephews, dear friends and special caregivers.
Viewing for Mrs. Tubbs will be 2:30 to 4:30 PM Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Haynes Mortuary Inc. Funeral will be 11 AM Friday, June 21, 2024 at Macedonia Baptist Church with viewing one hour prior to services.
