Thelma Nelson, 87 of New Boston, Texas died on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

Thelma Marie Nelson was born December 21, 1937 in New Boston, Texas. She was the third of three children born to the loving parents - the late George Nelson, Sr. and Julia Perry-Nelson. Her eldest sister, Ella Mae Turner and brother, George Nelson, Jr. preceded her in death.

At the early age of 10, Thelma accepted Christ as her personal Savior under the pastorate of the late Rev. W. M. Sexton at the Antioch Baptist Church in New Boston. She graduated from Central High School at the head of her class .... Valedictorian. She continued her education at Prairie View A&M College where she received her B.A. and master's degree. In 1960, she was hired by Clarksville ISD in Clarksville, Texas. There she taught at Cheatam High School for four years.  In 1964, she was hired by the Ashdown, Arkansas ISD; she taught the sixth grade for seven years. In 1971 she was hired by the New Boston ISD where she remained for thirty-three (33) years retiring in 2004.

Ms. Nelson was very active in her church and community serving in many capacities always busy trying to be supportive and willing to work.  Ms. Nelson was a member of the Busy Bee Mission Circle, CCU - Christian Coalition for Unity, CCU Youth Organization, Feed The Children and WBRTA. She taught the Adult Women's Class for sixteen years.

Ms. Nelson is survived by a host of niece and nephews.

There will be viewing at the Antioch Baptist Church Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 11:00-12:00 p.m. (one hour prior to the funeral service). The funeral will be at 12:00 Noon at the Antioch Baptist Church - Burial will be at the Antioch Prosperity Cemetery.
