Vernell Stanmore Banks, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother of Texarkana, Texas passed away on February 16, 2020 at the age of 76. Mrs. Banks was born on November 20, 1943. She was married to her devoted husband of 53 years, Theodore Banks, Sr.

Mrs. Banks graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and worked as a Medical Technologist. She was the first African American to graduate from the Wadley School of Medical Technologist in Texarkana, Texas.

Mrs. Banks loved the Lord. Her Christian faith guided her actions. She was a member of Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years and served faithfully until her health declined.

Mrs. Banks is survived by her husband, Theodore Banks, Sr. of Texarkana, Texas; one daughter, Veronica Banks of Texarkana, Texas; three sons and two daughters in law, Dr. Theodore Banks (Dr. Peggy Banks) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Vincent Banks of Dallas,Texas; Dr. Troy Banks (Leesa) of Salisbury, Maryland; Six brothers, Vernon Stanmore, Jr. (Frankie) of Longview, Texas; Charles Stanmore of Longview, Texas; Jerry Stanmore (Glenda) of Longview, Texas; Freddie Stanmore, Sr. of Queen City, Texas; Floyd Stanmore (Annie ) of DeSoto, TX and Dr. Roger Stanmore of Huntsville, Alabama; and three sisters, Linda Bandy (Carl, Sr.), Cathy Washington of Atlanta, Texas and Beverly Stanmore of Dallas, Texas. Six grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, February 21, 2020 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Haynes Mortuary. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m.Saturday February 22, 2020 at Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church, 489 South Kings Highway, Texarkana, Texas 75501 with Pastor Kenneth Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under the direction of Haynes Mortuary.
