Celebrating the Life & Legacy of Willie Jewel Ray
Philippians 4:13 describes the life of Willie Jewel Ray "I can do ALL things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

Born to the late Sarah and Casey Howard on April 24, 1937 in Morris County Texas. She was a hard working woman who dedicated her life to Christ. She was a loyal and faithful servant of God which showed in her everyday life. She never missed an opportunity to share her love of the Lord with you. She was the definition of a Christian woman. Mrs. Ray had a servant's heart and a beautiful soul. She was always helping others. Her faith and family was her greatest joy and the most important parts of her life.

She represented her community (Ward II) as a viable member of the Texarkana City Council for twenty years. She was instrumental in voter registration and transporting community members to the polls. In her honor, the Willie J. Ray Overpass was erected. She spearheaded this project to ensure passage over the train tracks that always blocked Lake Drive.

She was preceded in death by her husbands T. George Norman and Johnnie L. Ray; her son Donald Ray Norman; her brother Marvin Howard; her sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Roy Ivory; sons-in-law James Kirk and Lanny Arvin Rhodes and brother-in-law Bobby Moton.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters - Diane Norman and Debra Rhodes; one sister Linda Moton; three brothers - Charles Howard (Marilyn), William Howard (Lillie) and John Howard (Linda); sister-in-law Caroline Howard; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.
